Divorce The Hidden Stats

September 12, 2025

A large percentage of our population is within either a short term or long term relationship. However as this number of “couples” begins to grow, the number of people having second thoughts has also, as it is now showing that 6 out of 10 people who are in a relationship are unhappy or have admitted to their being problems. One of the many relationship charities, oneplusone, has shone a light on the recent statistic that some 26% of British parents who live with and share their day to day life with both their children and their spouse/partner have found themselves discreetly contemplating either divorce or separation from their other half. With the current statistics being at 42% of marriages ending in divorce, this shows that a half of these separations where thought about previously for a long period of time other than acting upon the decision suddenly. It is thought that for most these problems seem to develop and surface when they are faced with the additional stress of Christmas and New Year however many other things could trigger its release. As it is also known, within these situations, children tend to become stuck and could find themselves in the middle of an emotional and uncomfortable environment and this can lead to longer term issues and complications for childcare in the future.OnePlusOne Director Penny Mansfield CBE stated “Separated parents who are able to communicate with one another effectively and are able to work out arrangements about money and the children early on have the best chance of preventing their children becoming stuck in the middle of their disputes.”For any clarification on the above issues or just a general chat, please contact Smitta by calling 0116 2999 199 or emailing smitta.modi@d-w-s.co.uk
